Jedinstveni Devo brend art.rocka nikada nije bio pogodan za pravi 'mainstream',ali su nekako sa singlom 'Whip It' dobili dovoljno radio i MTV pažnje da dospe na Top liste.Ništa slično 'Whip It' nije bilo na listama popularnosti te 1980.Sa krautrock motoričnim ritmom,finim elektronskim bas linijama i sintetičkim zvukom biča,'Whip It' je hrabra i provokativna pesma koja još uvek zvuči fantastično.
Jedna od boljih stvari koje su se desile krajem sedamdesetih i početkom osamdesetih je to da su i ovakve 'uvrnute' numere nalazile put do masovne konzumacije.
